Dr. Severt is pleased to announce that Dr. Laura Jacox, DMD, Ph.D., will be joining her practice on July 1, 2019. Dr. Jacox will bring her warmth, caring, and enthusiasm for creating beautiful smiles, as well as her passion for the science behind orthodontics, to the team.
Dr. Jacox grew up in the Midwest, where she developed a love of the outdoors, sweet corn, live music, and the lakefront. For college, she relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she attended MIT. While in college, she played violin in the orchestra and met her future husband, Ilan, on a freshman year pre-orientation sailing trip.
Dr. Jacox then attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in pursuit of her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) as well as her Ph.D. While in dental school, Dr. Jacox fell in love with orthodontics: the patient care, the problem solving, and the power of creating beautiful smiles. After graduating top of her class, Dr. Jacox focused her clinical practice on facial development and smile esthetics.
She pursued residency in the world-renowned Department of Orthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry, where she was recognized with the UNC Graduate School Master’s Merit Fellowship. Dr. Jacox will continue as part-time faculty at UNC.
In her free time, Dr. Jacox loves trail running, traveling, and playing violin in the Chapel Hill Philharmonic and Durham Symphony. When she’s not caring for patients, you can find her gardening at home with her husband and her 3-legged cat, Charlie.
Dr. Severt is certain that you will find Dr. Jacox as talented and brilliant as she does and looks forward to you meeting Dr. Jacox personally. Dr. Severt and Dr. Jacox will work closely together to ensure that you receive the best orthodontic treatment and experience they can provide.
I enjoy working as part of a strong team, supporting Dr. Severt as she creates beautiful smiles. Everyone here is focused on providing excellent customer service; we support and encourage each other as we help our patients achieve amazing smiles!
I handle the day-to-day operations of the practice, allowing Dr. Severt to focus on patient care. By ensuring we’re organized and prepared, I help the day flow smoothly, so patient visits go off without a hitch.
My husband Steve and I were married in 1979. We raised four children, and we currently have five grandchildren, who keep us young and active! I love spending the holidays and vacations with my family. I also enjoy walking and riding my bike around Carrboro, reading, and knitting.
We moved to Carrboro a few years ago. I love that it’s a walking town and, because of the proximity to UNC Chapel Hill, we enjoy going to plays, lectures, concerts, and a variety of sporting events. I’m a loyal fan of the Fighting Irish from the University of Notre Dame.
I attended Alamance County Community College and graduated with a degree in dental assisting in 1991. I worked in an orthodontic/pediatric office prior to joining Dr. Severt’s team in 1997. Working here for the past 20+ years has been a true pleasure. I’ve enjoyed getting to know all of our patients and being a part of improving their smiles, and I feel fortunate to work with such an amazing team.
I spend my days working with patients, helping Dr. Severt bond braces, doing monthly archwire changes, and delivering appliances.
I have been married to my husband Keith for 18 years this March. We have two beautiful girls, Samantha and Lexie. We are very involved with school athletic activities, as well as high school chorus, and traveling with Lexie’s travel softball team. I personally enjoy reading in my spare time.
I am so happy to play a role in making beautiful smiles! It’s remarkable to see each patient change during treatment and finish with incredible confidence in their appearance. We have an amazing practice, with a doctor and team who do everything possible to keep our patients comfortable and smiling during treatment.
I work in the clinic, assisting Dr. Severt with orthodontic procedures, including placing braces, archwires, retainers, and Invisalign®.
Russell, my husband, and I have been married more than 35 years. Our son, Rusty, and his wife Emily have our grandson, Charlie. Daughter Maggie and her husband, Mason, have two children, too: Mia Grace and McCray. Outside of work, I like reading, cooking, walking, and – best of all – spending time with my family.
I enjoy meeting new people and building a relationship with them. It’s a good feeling to be part of someone’s smile story. I’m the proud owner of a Severt Smile, myself, and I’m excited to help others achieve the same!
Dr. Severt is honest, genuine, and positive; she and my coworkers make this the most supportive, happy office!
I assist Dr. Severt chair side with bonding brackets and arch wire changes. I also keep up with the various labs we work with and help create the fun contests for the office. One of my favorite things to do is use the scanner that takes digital pictures of teeth.
My husband Daniel, who’s a firefighter, and I have two children; Alayna and Aaron. We love to go to museums and take our two Boston Terriers for walks.
Orthodontic Financial Coordinator
I enjoy having the opportunity to help others achieve life-changing treatment. Those finished, radiant smiles can’t be beat! Dr. Severt is an amazing person and orthodontist and I love coming to work with this wonderful team every day.
I meet with patients and families to review and answer questions about financial information and insurance. I also handle the business financial matters, including accounts payable and receivable. Additionally, I help at the front desk with scheduling and other tasks.
I’m an Alamance County native. My husband Kenny and I have two daughters, Hayley and Kenley, and a son, Kendel. I’m a big family person and enjoy every minute I have with my family. I like watching my girls play softball and my son play baseball and football. I also enjoy date nights with my amazing husband. I love going to church with my family, too. God has richly blessed me with a wonderful family, along with a wonderful job and work family.
I like interacting with our patients, hearing what’s happening in their lives, and seeing how they become more confident at each visit. I also enjoy interacting with outside offices and doctors. I feel strongly about the importance of customer service and so do Dr. Severt and my team mates. We’re a cohesive group, focused on keeping people smiling!
I greet patients, schedule visits, and maintain the waiting room and front desk. I also handle marketing referrals, correspondence with outside offices, and manage our phone lines.
Born and raised in the Chapel Hill area, I have a lot of love for my home state. My husband and I grew up together and love where we live. I have a Chihuahua who is my best friend and a very special family member. Outside of work, I enjoy writing and music, and my husband and I share a love of water so we spend a lot of time at many lovely lakes in North Carolina. I attend my childhood church, Antioch Baptist, and enjoy the fellowship of my community.
I am responsible for welcoming new patients to the office and coordinating everything necessary to get started with orthodontic treatment. I assist Dr. Severt during all initial examinations. I have been in the dental field for thirty years, twenty seven of those years have been in orthodontics, and I have spent 11 years with Dr. Severt.
I like working in orthodontics because I love educating patients on the benefits of having orthodontic treatment. I love to see their enthusiasm when they see a change in their appearance and actively participate in their treatment. My favorite thing about my job, and this office is that I love working with people, and I enjoy the opportunity to witness their transformations. I love my work family too.
I am a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I have lived in North Carolina for twenty years. My husband Henry and I have a son, Zachary, and a stepdaugher, Jessie. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, studying spirituality, couponing, and dancing. I am a big fan of Boxers, and I love my dogs Ozzie, and Walter. I enjoy spending time with my family, and watching movies.
